The Asia-Europe Leaders High-Level Economic and Financial Conference was held in Rome, the capital of Italy, on December 5. As a distinguished guest, Chairman Li Yong was invited to attend and delivered an off-the-cuff speech at the plenary session. The theme of the conference was "Asia-Europe Leadership Cooperation Dialogue", aiming to promote economic exchanges and cooperation between Asia and Europe, as well as between Asia, Europe and other regions of the world, and to advance the development of a new-type of partnership between Asia and Europe.
Zhou Xiaochuan, Former Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and Vice President of the Boao Forum for Asia, stated in his keynote speech that the “G20 Leaders’ Buenos Aires Summit Declaration” provided new momentum for reshaping globalization. All countries should adhere to multilateralism, promote WTO reform, strengthen the building of the global financial safety net, advance the Belt and Road Initiative, promote connectivity, and drive a new round of globalization. Asia and Europe share similar positions in reshaping globalization and reforming the international economic order, with enormous potential for cooperation. Asian and European countries should strengthen cooperation to contribute to the strong, sustainable, balanced, and inclusive growth of the world economy.
Romano Prodi, Former President of the European Commission and Former Prime Minister of Italy, stated that economic globalization provided strong momentum for world economic growth. Prodi emphasized that the Belt and Road Initiative aligns with shared development goals, and Europe should enhance practical cooperation with China and Asia.
The key topics of the conference included the Belt and Road Initiative, the digital economy, and sustainable development, with some approximately 300 representatives from political, business and academic circles from 15 countries and regions participating in the conference.
